Air New Zealand Unveils Revolutionary 787-9 Dreamliner Cabins Featuring Economy Bunk Beds

Air New Zealand has introduced a groundbreaking cabin redesign for its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner fleet, setting new standards in passenger comfort across all travel classes. This comprehensive retrofit, the airline's first in over 15 years, encompasses innovative features aimed at enhancing the flying experience.

Business Premier & Business Premier Luxe

The Business Premier cabin now boasts a 1-2-1 herringbone layout, ensuring direct aisle access for every passenger. Each seat is equipped with a 24-inch 4K entertainment screen, wireless charging, and ample storage. The exclusive Business Premier Luxe offers additional luxury with a full closing door, expanded bed space, and the option for two-person dining.

Premium Economy

Designed for enhanced privacy and comfort, the Premium Economy seats feature fixed shell structures to prevent seat recline intrusion, winged headrests, and increased storage options.

Economy Class Innovations

Economy passengers benefit from 50% larger 13.3-inch entertainment screens, innovative snack trays, and the new "Economy Stretch" seats offering extra legroom.

Introducing Skynest: Economy Bunk Beds

A pioneering addition is the "Skynest," the world's first lie-flat bunk beds available in economy class. Each Skynest pod includes a full-length bed, USB charging ports, reading lights, and privacy curtains. Passengers can reserve these pods for four-hour sessions, providing a restful experience on long-haul flights.

Deployment and Future Plans

The first retrofitted aircraft is scheduled to commence service on May 19, 2025, operating routes from Auckland to Brisbane and San Francisco. Air New Zealand plans to retrofit all 14 of its 787-9 aircraft by the end of 2026, with seven expected to be completed by the end of this year.

This ambitious overhaul underscores Air New Zealand's commitment to redefining air travel comfort and innovation.
