The Indianapolis Colts have publicly apologized to Miami Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill following backlash over a now-deleted NFL schedule release video that mocked Hill’s 2024 police detainment. The video, inspired by the popular video game Minecraft, was removed shortly after posting due to legal and content concerns.
The clip, intended to be a humorous take on the team’s Week 1 matchup against the Dolphins, showed a block-style dolphin wearing a No. 10 jersey—Hill’s number—being stopped by a Coast Guard boat. The Colts later acknowledged that the scene referenced Hill’s real-life traffic stop from September 2024, which was captured on police body cameras and sparked controversy.
Hill had been detained outside Hard Rock Stadium on game day last season after failing to immediately comply with police commands. He later explained the delay was due to recovering from minor knee surgery. Although Hill was cited for careless driving and not wearing a seatbelt, the charges were dropped when the officer failed to appear in court.
Following online backlash, the Colts said, “We sincerely apologize to Microsoft and Tyreek,” citing unauthorized use of Minecraft visuals and the clip’s insensitivity. Microsoft owns the rights to Minecraft, and Warner Bros., which recently released The Minecraft Movie, was not involved in the video.
The Colts and Dolphins are scheduled to face off in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season in Indianapolis, adding tension to what is already a highly anticipated game.
