Just 20 minutes before the first bounce of Sunday’s match between Richmond and West Coast at the MCG, both teams were forced to make late changes due to knee injuries suffered during warm-ups.

Richmond withdrew premiership defender Jayden Short after he experienced a knee issue during the warm-up. In his place, James Trezise was brought into the squad as the Tigers' substitute. Kane McAuliffe, who was originally set to be the sub, was promoted to the starting lineup.

Similarly, West Coast lost co-captain and key forward Oscar Allen just 40 minutes before the scheduled 1:10pm AEST start. He was also ruled out with a knee concern. The Eagles replaced him with Harry Edwards, while Tom Gross was named as their substitute.

Both clubs had initially named unchanged teams an hour before the game, but the injuries forced sudden reshuffles. The Eagles, still searching for their first win of the 2025 AFL season, entered the match sitting last on the ladder after a disappointing 0-8 start.

The last-minute player withdrawals added further uncertainty to what was already a crucial match for both struggling sides
