Real Madrid’s Last-Gasp Win Over Mallorca Delays Barcelona’s La Liga Title Celebration

Real Madrid kept their slim La Liga title hopes alive with a dramatic 2-1 comeback win over Mallorca, courtesy of a 95th-minute winner from Jacobo Ramon. The result postpones Barcelona’s potential title celebrations, which now hinge on their upcoming match against Espanyol.

Mallorca took an early lead at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Martin Valjent scoring in the 11th minute. The match, played in front of a sparse crowd, saw a weakened Real Madrid side—missing 12 players through injury—struggle to convert dominance into goals.

Kylian Mbappe equalized in the 68th minute with a superb solo effort, but Real continued to be frustrated by Mallorca’s resilient defense and standout goalkeeper Leo Roman. Roman made 11 saves and kept Madrid at bay despite the home side's staggering 72% possession, 26 corners, and 39 attempts on goal.

Just as Barcelona prepared to celebrate a title win—a draw would have been enough due to their head-to-head advantage—Jacobo Ramon, making his first league start, capitalized on a defensive error to volley home the winner in stoppage time. His goal denied Mallorca a hard-earned point and kept Madrid within four points of Barça, who have a game in hand.

“This is a dream come true,” Ramon told Real Madrid TV. “There’s no better way to score my first goal.”

Barcelona can still secure their 28th La Liga title with a win over city rivals Espanyol on Thursday. But for now, Real Madrid’s late heroics have ensured that the champagne remains on ice at Camp Nou.
