Canadian rapper Tory Lanez has been hospitalized after being brutally stabbed 14 times inside a California prison, officials confirmed. The attack occurred Tuesday morning at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, roughly 75 miles north of Los Angeles.
Lanez, 32, suffered multiple stab wounds to his back, torso, head, and face, causing both lungs to collapse, according to a statement on his official Instagram account. Initially placed on a breathing machine, the rapper is now breathing independently and said to be in stable condition.
“Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through,” the post read.
The stabbing took place around 7:20 a.m. local time. Prison officials provided immediate first aid before transporting Lanez to a local medical facility. The California Department of Corrections has launched an investigation into the incident, though no motive for the attack has been publicly disclosed.
Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, is currently serving a 10-year sentence for shooting fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion in 2020. The conviction included three felony gun-related charges. The high-profile case gained widespread attention, especially after Megan testified that Lanez shot at her feet during an argument as they left a party hosted by Kylie Jenner.
Lanez has maintained his innocence and has not apologized for the incident. The case divided the hip-hop community, with figures like 50 Cent and Iggy Azalea weighing in and requesting leniency on his behalf.
Before his conviction, Lanez had seven top 10 albums in the U.S. and recently teased a new prison-recorded album titled Peterson.
