Jeanine Pirro Appointed Interim U.S. Attorney for D.C. by Donald Trump

Former President Donald Trump has named Fox News host and former judge Jeanine Pirro as the interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. The decision comes after Trump withdrew his initial nominee, Ed Martin, due to backlash from Senate Republicans. Martin faced scrutiny over his defense of Capitol rioters and ties to far-right figures, which ultimately undermined his confirmation prospects.

Pirro, a longtime Trump ally and outspoken conservative voice on Fox News’ “The Five,” previously served as a judge and district attorney in Westchester County, New York. However, she has not held a prosecutorial or law enforcement role in more than 20 years. Her television career has included promoting conspiracy theories related to the 2020 presidential election, and she has been named in defamation lawsuits filed against Fox News over those claims.

Despite her lack of recent legal experience, Trump praised Pirro as “incredibly well qualified” and emphasized her media presence and loyalty. Her appointment follows a familiar pattern in Trump’s political strategy: rewarding allies from conservative media with prominent roles in his administration.

Pirro’s interim term is set to begin after Martin’s temporary tenure ends on May 20.
